Erkki Oja is a Full Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Aalto University (formerly Helsinki University of Technology) since 1993. He previously held academic leadership roles as Director of the Finnish Centers of Excellence in Computational Inference Research, Adaptive Informatics Research, and Neural Networks. His affiliations include visiting professorships at Tokyo Institute of Technology (1990-1991) and Universite Pantheon-Sorbonne, Paris.

- Academy Professor, Academy of Finland (2000-2005)
His research focuses on machine learning, pattern recognition, data and signal analysis, and image processing, with significant contributions to neural computing. He has authored over 300 publications and three influential books, including Independent Component Analysis (2001).
