Erkin Asutay is an Associate Professor and Docent at Linköping University's Division of Psychology (PSY) within the Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning (IBL). His research focuses on the interplay between affective processes, attention, and decision-making, particularly in complex environments. He employs methods like psychophysics, psychophysiology (e.g., facial EMG), and computational modeling to study how affective experiences—shaped by expectations, uncertainty, and prediction errors—influence behavior and judgments. His work bridges cognitive and affective science, with applications to environmental psychology, digital well-being, and public policy.
Asutay’s research interests include:
- Emotion’s role in perception and attention
- Affective integration over time
- Sustainable decision-making and climate change behavior
- Impact of digital technologies on well-being
Recent publications highlight themes such as anticipated affect driving pro-environmental behavior and the role of mental imagery in climate risk perception. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and contributes to the JEDI-lab at Linköping University. His work informs behavioral public policy through insights into affective mechanisms.
