Eriş Uygar

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eriş Uygar serves as Associate Professor and Vice Department Head in the Department of Civil Engineering at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Northern Cyprus. He holds a BEng (1997), MSc (1999), and PhD (2007) in Civil Engineering from EMU, with prior professional experience as a Geotechnical Engineer at Mott MacDonald Ltd in the UK (2005-2014).

His research spans critical geotechnical domains:

• Soil stabilization using bio-polymers, gypsum, and waste materials (e.g., plastic waste)
• Soil-water characteristic curve analysis and settlement behavior
• Liquefaction susceptibility of sandy soils and expansive soil mechanics
• Landfill liner design and soil-structure interaction dynamics

Dr. Uygar's work bridges academic research and practical engineering applications, particularly in Northern Cyprus infrastructure projects. His recent research emphasizes sustainable geotechnical solutions using waste materials, reflecting growing environmental priorities in civil engineering.

He actively contributes to professional practice through consultancy services and as a member of the Chamber of Civil Engineers' Committee for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering since 2015.

Dr. Uygar supervises extensive graduate research, with 5 PhD and 6 Master's theses completed or ongoing between 2016-2025. His funded projects include "Design of Landfill Liner Using Bentonite and Waste Materials" (2020-2021), demonstrating applied research impact in regional waste management solutions.
