Erin Tomlinson

Erin Tomlinson is an Assistant Professor of Law at the CUNY School of Law. She serves as Co-Director of the Second Look Project and teaches in the Defenders Clinic, focusing on representing incarcerated individuals in parole hearings, appeals, clemency petitions, and post-conviction litigation. Prior to her faculty role, she worked as a trial and appellate public defender, including at the Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Practice and Criminal Appeals Bureau.

Research & Clinical Focus: Her work centers on criminal defense strategies, systemic reforms in incarceration, and advocating for marginalized defendants. She emphasizes post-conviction relief and equitable legal representation for those facing misdemeanor and felony charges.

Labs/Teams: Leads clinical education through the Defenders Clinic and drives the Second Look Project, which challenges excessive prison sentences.
