Erin E. Helm is an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Physical Therapy Education at Widener University's College of Health & Human Services. She holds a PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware (2015) and is a licensed Physical Therapist specializing in neuro and oncologic rehabilitation.
Her research focuses on optimizing rehabilitation outcomes through telemedicine, understanding genetic influences on motor recovery post-stroke, and addressing the psychosocial impacts of disrupted healthcare services on cancer survivors. Key areas include breast cancer-related lymphedema management, telerehabilitation efficacy, and neuroplasticity mechanisms.
Recent publications highlight advancements in telehealth applications for oncology patients and genetic factors affecting stroke recovery. Helm has received the Stephen Gudas Award (2021) and an NIH-funded NRSA fellowship (2011–2015).
Her teaching emphasizes critical thinking and compassionate patient care. Professional memberships include the Oncology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and APTA itself, alongside American Red Cross BLS certification.
