Erik de Jong

Erik de Jong is a part-time Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, affiliated with the Electrical Energy Systems research group. He serves as a Principal Researcher and General Manager of the Flex Power Grid Lab at DNV GL in Arnhem, Netherlands. His work bridges academia and industry, focusing on the integration of power electronics into smart grids.

• Education: B.Ing. and M.Ing. (cum laude) in Electric and Electronic Engineering from Rand Afrikaans University (2001, 2003); Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology (2007).

His research explores supraharmonic emissions in power systems, particularly from EV fast chargers and their impact on grid stability. He investigates modeling and testing methodologies, including hardware-in-the-loop simulations, to address risks from widespread power electronics adoption.

Recent publications highlight his work on IEC 60076-3 compliance, supraharmonic propagation through transformers, and harmonic characterization of EV chargers. These studies emphasize grid reliability under renewable energy integration and EV charging demands.
