Erik Levine is a Professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston in the Art department. His work spans sculpture, drawing, and video art, often exploring themes of cultural masculinity, rituals, and the intersection of fiction and reality. Levine has exhibited widely in the U.S. and Europe, including a solo survey at Ludwig Forum Aachen.
Research Interests: Levine's practice critically examines contemporary art through documentary techniques and conceptual installations. His video works like Scenario and More Man address psychological and societal dynamics, while his drawings focus on material culture and visual narratives.
Scientific Awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, multiple Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants, and Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowships. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Jerome Foundation, and New York State Council on the Arts.
His public collections include the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Walker Art Center, and others globally. Levine's residencies include the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and Experimental Television Center.
