معرفی
Erik Hendrickson is a Professor and Chair in the Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire within the College of Arts and Sciences, where he has served since 1994. His career integrates teaching, research, and extensive science outreach.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from Michigan State University (1994)
- M.S. in Physics from Michigan State University (1990)
- B.S. in Physics from University of Wisconsin-River Falls (1988)
His research spans condensed matter physics (focusing on electride compounds), elementary particle physics through student-led cloud chamber projects, planetary science investigations of Europa's magnetic field, and innovative physics education methods. He co-founded Science Theatre during graduate studies, which earned the 1993 AAAS Public Understanding of Science & Technology Award for bringing science demonstrations to schools and public events.
His publication record centers on electride research from 1996-1998, examining optical and electrical properties of sodium and potassium cryptate compounds. These studies contribute to material science understanding of novel electride systems and their spectroscopic behaviors.
Scientific Awards:
- UWEC Excellence in Service Award (2011)
- Student Organization Advisor Awards (2003, 2013)
- UWEC Education Professor of the Year (2003, 2009)
- WAPT Excellence in Teaching Physics Award (2000)
As faculty advisor for the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma (National Physics Honor Society), he mentors students through research collaborations like cloud chamber and acoustic levitator projects. He also serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the Wisconsin Association of Physics Teachers, demonstrating commitment to both institutional and professional service.
He actively leads science outreach initiatives including Science Theatre demonstrations and anticipates expanded research capabilities in the new Science & Health Science Building opening Fall 2027.
