Erik Buyst is a Full Professor at KU Leuven's Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), affiliated with the Economics Research Group. He actively contributes to academic governance as a senior member of the Faculty Council and Campus Council.
His research focuses on economic history, housing market dynamics, urban economics, and public finance. Recent projects include analyzing child labor markets, technological change via railways, and gender inequalities in 19th-century labor outcomes.
His publications often employ spatial and statistical techniques to study housing valuation, federal debt dynamics, and historical wage disparities. As a promotor, he supervises multiple PhD students, including J. Vandenbergh and D. Van Esbroeck.
