Erik Brandt

Erik Brandt is a Professor of Graphic Design and Chair of the Design Department at Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). He has been active since 1994, blending graphic design practice with education. Educated at Virginia Commonwealth University (MFA) and the College of William and Mary (BA), his career began as a cartoonist in Japan before shifting focus to print media and typographic exploration.

His research interests center on Ficciones Typografika—a project exploring typography in public spaces—and the intersection of design with socio-political commentary. His work has been exhibited internationally, and he maintains a studio, Typografika (Visual Communication und Konditorei). Notable recognition includes his 2012 election to AGI and his 2022 appointment as International President of AGI.

Recent activities include discussions on AI in design (highlighted in local news) and participation in exhibitions such as the Black and White Show at the Casket Arts Building.
