Erica Ryan is a Professor and Director of the Gender and Sexuality Studies Program at Rider University's Department of History and Philosophy. She holds a Ph.D. from Brown University (2010) and specializes in modern American history, focusing on gender, sexuality, and political culture. Her research examines the intersections of these themes in the modern U.S., including the family as a political construct and the history of conservatism and culture wars. Awards include the Lindback Teaching Award (2024) and the Frank N. Elliott Service Award (2021).
Her teaching spans courses on U.S. History, cultural history, and gender studies. Notable publications include When the World Broke in Two (2018) and Red War on the Family (2014). She actively engages with public history, contributing to exhibits like the Alice Paul Institute's 'Marketing the Movement.' Ryan also serves on committees such as the New Jersey Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium and the Diversity Discovered initiative.
