Erica R. Thaler, MD is a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She is affiliated with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), the Veterans Administration Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). As Director of General Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery at HUP and Vice Chair of her department, she leads clinical and surgical initiatives.
- Education: A.B. in Politics from Princeton University (1986), M.D. from Harvard Medical School (1990)
Her research focuses on surgical treatments for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), including hypoglossal nerve stimulation, and the intersection of insomnia with sleep apnea outcomes. She also investigates cardiovascular implications of OSA therapies and perioperative care protocols.
Her recent publications emphasize hypoglossal nerve stimulation efficacy, sleep apnea diagnostics, and surgical outcomes. Collaborative work in immunology explores CD8+ T cell biology. She serves on institutional committees for appointments and professionalism.
