Eric West is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Benedictine College, where he has taught since August 2001. His primary academic affiliations include the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America.
His educational background includes a B.A. from Bethany College (1989), and both an M.A. (1993) and Ph.D. (2001) from the University of Kansas.
Dr. West's research focuses on commutative algebra, particularly the asymptotic properties of multigraded modules and the mathematics of cryptology. His work explores structures such as commutative rings and modules, with an emphasis on prime ideals and divisors in graded settings.
His recent publications in the Journal of Algebra and the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society (both 2004) reflect a strong trend in foundational algebraic structures, with applications in understanding asymptotic behaviors in multigraded contexts.
He is an active member of the mathematical community, belonging to the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, and the mathematics honor society Kappa Mu Epsilon.
As an educator, Dr. West teaches a range of courses including Calculus, Modern Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Cryptography. He also advises directed research projects and is involved in the college's orchestra as a string bass player.
