Eric Steinberg is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education at the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, Ohio University. He holds a Ph.D. from 1991 and has over 24 years of experience in civil engineering research. His primary affiliations include the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Russ College Dean’s Office, and roles on technical advisory committees for organizations like ODOT, PCI, and the Transportation Research Board.
His research focuses on bridge engineering, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), prestressed concrete design, and structural reliability. He has led ODOT-funded projects, including studies on UHPC shear keys in adjacent box-beam bridges and structural evaluation of deteriorated bridge components. Steinberg is a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and a member of ASCE, ACI, and PCI.
Awards include the National PCI Distinguished Educator Award, PCI Central Region's Professor of the Year, and multiple teaching awards. His work spans 150+ publications, emphasizing UHPC applications, bridge load behavior, and seismic protection systems. He advises student organizations like ASCE and SEAO and co-leads research initiatives like the Ohio Research Initiative for Locals (ORIL).
Labs/Teams: Directly involved in the Structures Research Services Program and collaborates on projects with ODOT, FHWA, and industry partners. His research integrates advanced materials, structural analysis, and real-world infrastructure challenges.
