Eric Smith

Eric Smith is a Professor of Taxation at Weber State University’s Goddard School of Business & Economics, where he also serves as Director of the Master of Taxation Program and the Center for Tax Education & Research. He has been on the faculty since 2009 and previously held the role of Associate Dean in the Goddard School.

Research & Teaching Focus:

Smith’s scholarly work centers on state and local taxation, individual taxation, and broader tax policy questions. He regularly publishes in leading tax journals such as Utah Law Review, Virginia Tax Review, Florida Tax Review, and The Tax Lawyer. At WSU he teaches undergraduate Individual Taxation and graduate courses including Advanced Individual Taxation, State & Local Taxation, Tax-Exempt Entities, International Taxation, Retirement Plans, and Tax Research.

Advising & Program Leadership:

As Program Director he oversees the Master of Taxation curriculum and mentors graduate students; as Director of the Center for Tax Education & Research he leads outreach and scholarly activities that connect the academic and professional tax communities.
