Kevin Carmichael is an Instructor II in the Department of Accounting at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), where he teaches Business Law and Cost Accounting. He is a Tax Partner at the Naples office of Wood Buckel and Carmichael, specializing in business entity law, federal/state taxation, international tax, tax controversy, non-profit entities taxation, estate planning, and business succession planning. Mr. Carmichael holds a Juris Doctor (Nova Southeastern University), Master of Science in Accounting (Temple University), LL.M. in Taxation (University of Miami), and a Bachelor of Science from the United States Air Force Academy. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), admitted to practice before multiple U.S. courts, including the Tax Court.

Research and Expertise: His expertise spans business law, taxation, and non-profit governance. He advises on tax controversies, international tax strategies, and estate planning. He has extensive experience with not-for-profit organizations, serving as a founding director of the Center for Great Apes and on boards of the Florida Institute of CPAs and the Association of Graduates of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Professional Engagement: He co-plans the annual FGCU Accounting and Tax Conference and the Ave Maria Law School Estate Planning Conference. He previously taught at Ave Maria Law School (Income Tax Law, Corporate Tax, Partnership Tax, Exempt Organization Tax) and FGCU as an adjunct for six years. Fluent in Spanish, he combines legal and accounting expertise to address complex tax and governance challenges.
