Eric Skyllingstad is a Professor at Oregon State University's College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. His research focuses on upper ocean turbulence, mesoscale coastal internal waves, and ocean-atmosphere coupling. He holds a BS in Atmospheric Sciences from Oregon State University (1981), followed by two MS degrees in Meteorology and Computer Science (1983, 1985), and a PhD in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin (1986).
His work spans simulations of coastal circulations, turbulence under sea and ice leads, and resonant interactions between surface winds and ocean turbulence. Key research themes include tropical convection, Arctic sea ice melt processes, and large-eddy simulation (LES) of atmospheric and oceanic dynamics. His studies often integrate numerical modeling with observational data, addressing challenges in climate modeling and environmental fluid dynamics.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding ocean-atmosphere interactions, turbulent energy budgets, and Arctic cryosphere processes. Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams exploring mesoscale phenomena and their global implications.
