Brodie Pearson is an Assistant Professor at Oregon State University's College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. His research focuses on ocean mixing processes, turbulence, and their impacts on climate systems. He contributes to the IPCC AR6 report and develops advanced computational models like Oceananigans.jl and GeophysicalFlows.jl.
Research Interests: Pearson studies turbulence in the upper ocean and mesoscale eddies, developing new parameterizations for climate models. He investigates how surface waves and mesoscale dynamics influence ocean mixing, with implications for Earth's heat and momentum budgets.
Collaborations: Works with institutions like Brown University, Los Alamos National Lab, and the UK Met Office. His team includes graduate students Ara Lee and Cassidy Wagner, and postdoctoral scholar Amrapalli Garanaik.
Notable Projects: Co-authored the IPCC AR6 Assessment Report, led studies on Arctic sea ice melt timing, and pioneered hybrid turbulence closure schemes for ocean models. His work bridges observational data, theory, and high-performance computing to address climate system uncertainties.
Awards: Recipient of the Quo Vadis Outstanding Student Research Presentation (2009).
