Eric S. Folker is an Associate Professor of Biology and Director of Undergraduate Programs at Boston College. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. His research focuses on nuclear movement mechanisms in muscle development and disease, using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. Key areas include nuclear positioning in muscle cells, roles of the LINC complex, and mechanosensation in muscle architecture.
Dr. Folker leads the Folker Lab, which investigates how nuclear dynamics contribute to tissue function and disease pathogenesis. The lab employs advanced imaging, genetic screens, and functional assays. Recent work explores mechanisms underlying myonuclear positioning in muscle diseases like Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy and centronuclear myopathy.
