Eric S Underbakke
Eric S Underbakke is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology at Iowa State University. His research focuses on understanding protein dynamics, enzyme mechanisms, and signal transduction pathways. He employs advanced techniques such as hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS), cross-linking mass spectrometry, and structural biology approaches to study proteins involved in nitric oxide signaling, kinase activation, and cellular receptor complexes.
His work spans topics including neuronal nitric oxide synthase regulation, Pyk2 tyrosine kinase activation mechanisms, and the structural basis of receptor signaling in cellular processes. Underbakke’s research bridges biochemical experimentation with structural insights, contributing to our understanding of how protein conformational changes drive biological functions. He has published extensively in high-impact journals, with recent studies investigating regulatory scaffolding in kinases and molecular interactions in enzyme complexes.
