Eric Parisot is an Associate Professor in English at Flinders University's College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, specializing in British literature of the long eighteenth century. His research examines Gothic literature, literary responses to death and suicide, history of emotions, sentimentalism, Jane Austen, and British Romanticism. He coordinates the BA Honours program and serves as Vice President of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies.
Parisot's educational background includes a BA(Hons)/BSc, MPhil from the University of Glasgow, and PhD from the University of Melbourne. His research interests center on:
- The intersection of religion, aesthetics, and emotion in 18th-century texts
- Graveyard poetry's influence on Gothic literature and Romanticism
- Cultural representations of suicide in historical media
- Modern reinterpretations of literary classics through fan fiction
His publications consistently explore death, emotion, and Gothic sensibilities across literary history, employing historical, cultural, and affective approaches to analyze texts from the eighteenth century to contemporary adaptations. Recent work examines suicide representations in comedy, Jane Austen's cultural afterlife, and graveyard poetry's aesthetic legacy.
