Eric Nost is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment & Geomatics at the University of Guelph. His research examines how data technologies transform environmental governance, with a focus on political ecology, digital governance, and environmental justice. Nost investigates the human dimensions of data systems in addressing sustainability challenges related to climate adaptation, conservation, and food security.
He directs projects including Digital Conservation (assessing conservation technologies) and Environmental Enforcement Watch (analyzing environmental compliance data). As part of the Environmental Data and Governance Initiative, Nost analyzes socio-environmental data accessibility and federal climate change representations.
Nost teaches courses in nature-society geography, mapping, and conservation leadership. His publications critically examine data-driven environmental governance, digital agriculture, coastal restoration planning, and environmental justice tools. Current research explores AI in climate governance and digital ontologies of nature.
