Eric M. Meyers is an Associate Professor and Graduate Advisor at the School of Information at the University of British Columbia. He holds appointments in the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies (SLAIS) and teaches courses on youth services, new media, and information literacy.
Dr. Meyers' research focuses on the information practices of young people in academic and everyday contexts. His work lies at the intersection of information science, the learning sciences, and new media studies, with particular attention to collaborative information use and meaning making in social situations. His research interests include Youth Information Interaction, Collaborative Information Seeking and Retrieval, Theories of Learning and Cognition, Youth Services, School and Public Libraries, and Virtual Worlds.
Dr. Meyers' recent publications explore credibility assessment among youth, social information problem solving, and learning through digital media platforms like YouTube. His research employs a multi-method approach to understand how young people navigate complex information landscapes, with particular focus on early adolescents' decision-making processes regarding information use and rejection.
