Eric J. Perreault serves as Vice President for Research and holds dual professorships in Biomedical Engineering and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University's McCormick School of Engineering. His research focuses on neuromuscular control mechanisms, rehabilitation strategies, and biomechanics of movement disorders. He leads the Neuromuscular Control and Plasticity Lab, integrating experimental, computational, and machine learning approaches to improve functional recovery for individuals with motor deficits.
- Education:
- Ph.D. Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH)
- M.S. Electrical Engineering, McGill University (Montréal, PQ)
- B.S. Electrical Engineering, McGill University (Montréal, PQ)
Key research areas include understanding neural adaptations post-stroke, spinal cord injury recovery, and proprioceptive deficits in cancer survivors. His work bridges fundamental neuroscience with clinical applications in rehabilitation engineering. He is affiliated with the Master of Science in Robotics Program.
Recent publications highlight advancements in quantifying musculoskeletal impedance, neural control strategies, and machine learning applications in neurorehabilitation. His interdisciplinary approach addresses both basic science and translational challenges in restoring motor function.
