Eric J. Griffin serves as the Janice B. Trimble Endowed Chair in English and Professor of English at Millsaps College, with a 20-year leadership role in the Millsaps Yucatan Program connecting his scholarly focus on Old World-New World literary intersections.
His academic foundation includes:
- B.A. from Pomona College (Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Delta Pi, Cum Laude)
- M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Iowa (D.C. Spriestersbach Prize winner)
Professor Griffin's research examines Shakespearean and Cervantine works through frameworks of colonial history and cultural theory, emphasizing Anglo-Spanish literary relations and American exceptionalism. His scholarship bridges Renaissance studies with contemporary theoretical approaches including translingualism and ethno-poetics.
His publications from 2009-2021 reveal consistent engagement with transhistorical literary analysis, particularly exploring how Shakespeare and Cervantes intersect with colonial narratives and modern pedagogical practices across cultural boundaries.
