Dr. Eric J. Brown is a Associate Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He holds additional affiliations as a member of the Abramson Cancer Center, Institute on Aging, Penn Skin Disease Research Center, Penn Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics.
- Education: B.A. in Genetics (University of California, Berkeley, 1989), Ph.D. in Immunology (Harvard University, 1996)
Dr. Brown’s research focuses on mechanisms of genome stability during DNA replication, particularly the role of the ATR kinase pathway in protecting replication forks and preventing DNA damage. His work bridges cancer biology, aging, and age-associated diseases through the lens of genomic integrity.
Over the past decade, his publications have emphasized ATR inhibition in cancer therapy, including synergies with PARP inhibitors and biomarkers of drug sensitivity. Notably, his lab has pioneered studies on replication fork dynamics, synthetic lethality, and meiotic silencing.
- Scientific Award: Fellow, Institute on Aging at University of Pennsylvania SOM
Dr. Brown serves as Director of Education at the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute. His lab team includes researchers like Muzaffer Kassab and Rahul Mandal, focusing on translational approaches to cancer and aging.
