Eric Gouda is a Researcher at Utrecht University's Faculty of Science, Botanic Gardens department. Alongside Hans Persoon, he manages the university's botanical collections, with a specialization in the Bromeliaceae family (especially the genus Tillandsia) and Northern South American flora. He developed the Taxasoft taxonomy software based on DELTA standards.
His research interests focus on systematic botany, conservation of Bromeliaceae, and the intersection of software engineering with taxonomic practices. He also maintains a personal interest in breeding poison dart frogs (Dendrobatidae) and cultivating Tillandsias in a dedicated greenhouse.
Eric has been actively involved in Shaolin Ch'uan Fa martial arts since 1974, serving as head instructor in Utrecht since 1980. He practices meditation, breathing exercises, and the philosophy of Shaolin. In his leisure, he plays Baroque-era classical guitar pieces, particularly works by Johann Sebastian Bach.
