Eric Deemer

Eric Deemer is a Professor and Training Director in the Counseling Psychology program within the Department of Educational Studies at Purdue University's College of Education. He has been at Purdue since 2008, progressing from Assistant Professor to his current position as full Professor since 2021.

Dr. Deemer's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York (2008), an M.S. in Human Performance and Sport Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (1995), and a B.S. in Psychology from Allegheny College (1992).

His research focuses on academic and career development, with particular emphasis on motivational and social psychological factors that foster STEM career pursuit. Key research areas include gender and racial stereotypes' influence on career motivation, STEM interest and identity development, career intentions, academic procrastination, and academic momentum. His work examines how academic contexts shape motivational orientations and goals, with special attention to underrepresented groups in STEM fields.
