Eric D. Weber is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (CAPLA) of the University of Arizona. He joined CAPLA after a decade of professional practice in Phoenix and a teaching role at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) from 2011–2021, where he led design-build studios for the Solar Decathlon Build Challenge. His research focuses on the interplay between construction materials, technology, culture, and poetic design, informed by collaborations with firms like Will Bruder Architects and Jones Studio.
At CAPLA, Weber co-teaches the Stadium Rowhouses project—a five-house initiative bordering the Rincon Heights neighborhood—with University Distinguished Professor Mary Hardin. He also leads the Techne courses, emphasizing digital techniques and physical prototyping in CAPLA’s Model and Materials Labs. His design-build philosophy integrates digital fabrication and research-driven construction methods, exemplified by projects like the Sonoran Pentapus and Stadium Rowhouses, which enhance campus aesthetics and community engagement.
Notable achievements include guiding UNLV teams to second (2013) and third (2021) place finishes in the Solar Decathlon Build Challenge. His work spans artists’ housing projects in Utah and digitally fabricated installations. Outside academia, he pursues furniture design, sculpture, motorcycle riding, and harmonica playing, advocating for students to find joy in their work and embrace curiosity to overcome challenges.
