Dr. Erdem Evren is a Research Fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin since 2012. His work bridges anthropology and social theory, focusing on political activism, state violence, gender, and ecological politics in Turkey, the Middle East, and Europe.
- Education: PhD (Dr. Phil) from Freie Universität Berlin (2011, magna cum laude), MRes in Social Anthropology (2007), MA in Anthropology and Cultural Politics (2006), and BA in Sociology (2004).
Evren's research examines the intersections of capitalism, nature, and development, particularly through the lens of water and energy politics in Turkey. His work on anti-dam campaigns, such as the Yusufeli Dam Project, explores the temporal and spatial dynamics of hydro-development and its impact on communities and ecosystems.
His publications include forthcoming works on water and energy policies in Turkey, as well as analyses of conscientious objection and political subjectivity in the context of military service. Evren's ethnographic approach emphasizes affective geographies and the material consequences of techno-capitalist projects.

Evren has taught courses on anthropology and social theory at Humboldt Universität and Freie Universität Berlin, focusing on themes like state violence, gender, and sexuality in Turkey.
