Dr. Eoin Magennis serves as a Senior Lecturer at the Ulster University Business School and Principal Economist at the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre. With over 15 years of experience, he has conducted extensive research on the economies of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, having previously worked at InterTradeIreland and the Centre for Cross Border Studies.
Dr. Magennis holds a PhD in Economic History focusing on mid-eighteenth century Ireland. His scholarly contributions include a monograph, edited collections, and peer-reviewed articles on eighteenth-century Ireland and cross-border cooperation. His research spans economic policy, regional development, trade dynamics, and economic history with emphasis on the island of Ireland, investigating labour markets, low pay, sectoral competitiveness, and impacts of events like Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.
His awards include recognition from:

- Leverhulme Trust Research Award
- American Committee for Irish Studies Research Award
As an educator, Dr. Magennis supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students in regional economics and competitiveness. He has led funded projects addressing pandemic impacts, remote working, and economic corridors through bodies like the ESRC and DAERA. He serves as editor of Seanchas Ard Mhacha and is a core member of the Ulster University Economic Policy Centre, collaborating with policymakers to translate research into actionable insights for cross-border economic development.
