Enrique Salmon

Enrique Salmon is a Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at California State University, East Bay. A Rarámuri (Tarahumara) scholar, he specializes in ethnobotany, agroecology, and Indigenous ecological knowledge systems. His work bridges ancestral practices with contemporary challenges like climate change and food security.

He serves as Tribal Liaison for the campus and NAGPRA coordinator, advocating for Indigenous rights and cultural preservation. His research focuses on sustainable bio-cultural diversity, integrating cultural expression, leadership development, and policy advocacy.

Dr. Salmon authored Eating The Landscape (2013) and IWÍGARA (2021), exploring Indigenous foodways and plant knowledge. He has held roles including Scholar in Residence at the Heard Museum and Board Member of the Society of Ethnobiology.
