Engin Kanbur is currently serving as Professor, Director of the School of Civil Aviation, and Head of the Aviation Management Department at Kastamonu University. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and has a strong background in management and organization studies, with 20 years of military service experience in the Air Force Command before transitioning to academia.
His educational background includes a PhD from Gaziosmanpaşa University (2011-2015), a Master's degree from Balıkesir University (2002-2006), and a Bachelor's degree from Anadolu University (1996-2001), all in Business Administration with a focus on Management and Organization.
Kanbur's research primarily focuses on organizational behavior, strategic management, and aviation management. His work explores critical workplace dynamics including leadership styles, organizational commitment, employee well-being, job satisfaction, and psychological factors affecting workplace performance. He has made significant contributions to understanding authentic leadership, job crafting, psychological empowerment, and environmental organizational citizenship behavior within the aviation sector.
His scholarly output shows a clear trend toward examining psychological and behavioral aspects of workplace dynamics, with increasing focus on aviation-specific contexts in recent years. The publications demonstrate a progression from general organizational behavior topics to more specialized aviation management research, reflecting his current institutional focus.

As an academic advisor, Kanbur has supervised numerous graduate students, primarily in management and organizational studies with applications to aviation contexts. His research projects include several TÜBİTAK 2209-A projects focused on aviation service quality, organizational support in aviation workplaces, and career decision-making among aviation students. He has also led international projects including the Erasmus+ Skill-Up initiative (2019-2023) focused on skilling, upskilling, and reskilling in air transport.
Throughout his academic career, Kanbur has been actively involved in editing and reviewing for several journals including the Journal of Aviation Studies, Journal of Aviation Research, and İş ve İnsan Dergisi. He has also edited books on aviation management and aviation safety and security, demonstrating his leadership in shaping academic discourse in his field.
