Endre Takacs is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University. He joined Clemson in 2013 and was promoted to Professor in 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Atomic Physics from the University of Debrecen (1992). His research focuses on atomic physics, nuclear physics, and medical physics, particularly spectroscopic studies of highly charged ions and their applications in astrophysical plasmas and medical radiation therapy.
Research interests: atomic processes in laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, charge exchange mechanisms, effects of radiation on biological systems, and advanced radiotherapy techniques using GEANT4 modeling.
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on spectroscopic techniques (especially EUV/X-ray), nuclear charge radius measurements, and medical physics applications. Trends include precision atomic physics experiments, radio astronomy instrumentation, and radiation therapy innovations.
Awards include CURF Innovator Award (2019), InnoVision Technology Award (2017), and Faculty Scholar recognition (2016). He leads the Atomic Physics Lab and Medical Physics Lab at Clemson.
Current graduate advisees: Yang Yang and Adam Hosier. His research receives funding from NSF, NIST, NASA, and AFRL.
