Her research centers on the circular economy in fashion, with a strong emphasis on upcycling, remanufacture, and reducing textile waste through design-led innovation. She investigates practical frameworks to integrate pre-consumer waste into scalable fashion production, aiming to transform supply chains into more sustainable systems.
The trends in her publications from 2016 to 2020 reflect a consistent focus on upcycling, pre-consumer textile waste, and circular economy models in fashion. Her work bridges academic research and industry application, proposing tools and prototypes for systemic change in textile production and waste management.
Emmeline actively engages in knowledge exchange, serving as an external examiner for fashion programs at Birmingham City University and The Retail Academy. She has received no listed scientific awards but contributes significantly through conferences, workshops, and media appearances.
She supervises PhD students and is involved in interdisciplinary teaching and research. Her activities include organizing academic events such as the University of Northampton Annual Research Conference and delivering workshops on circular design. She also leads initiatives connecting academia with industry for sustainable innovation.
Emmeline founded the upcycled fashion label Emmeline 4 Re (2003–2009) through a KTP with the Salvation Army, which laid the foundation for her ongoing research. Her work continues to influence sustainable practices in fashion education and industry.
