Emmanuel Rey

Emmanuel Rey is an Associate Professor at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and founder of the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST). His work bridges architectural design, urban sustainability, and low-carbon technologies, with a focus on translating sustainability principles across scales—from urban planning to construction details.

Research interests includesustainability transitions,urban brownfield regeneration,bioclimatic architecture, andneighborhood-scale climate adaptation. He emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration between architects and engineers.

His recent articles examinecarbon flows in neighborhoods,urban river renaturation, andenergy performance of renovation projects, reflecting a focus onclimate resilienceandpost-carbon urbanism. Awards include the Swiss-academies award for transdisciplinary research (2015) and the European Gustave Magnel Prize (2009). Rey also contributes to architectural exhibitions and competitions, notably with the firm Bauart.
