Dr. Emma Topham is a Lecturer in Law and Director of Law with a Foundation Year at the University of Kent's Kent Law School. She joined in 2020 after completing her doctoral studies at Kent, where she also earned her LLB. In 2023, she completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE). Her roles include Editor in Chief of Critical Law TV (series 1-2) and collaboration with KMTV on the Generation Justice social justice education project. She convenes key undergraduate modules like A Critical Introduction to Law and Law for University Study, and actively promotes critical thinking and social justice in legal education.
Education:
- LLB and PhD (Thesis: Thick and Thin Concepts in Law) from University of Kent
- PGCHE completed in July 2023
Research Interests: Focus on analytic philosophy, particularly applying thick/thin concept distinctions to legal theory, jurisprudence, and medical ethics. She also investigates pedagogical strategies to enhance student success and skills development, founding the KLS Education Reading Group and the Education, Scholarship and Professional Practice Network.
Teaching and Mentorship: Academic Advisor and ACE coach, delivering one-to-one academic coaching. Teaches across LLB modules including Law and Medical Ethics and The Law of Tort.
Collaborations: Co-leads Generation Justice TV series with KMTV, aiming to educate secondary students on social justice issues through multimedia.
