Emma Sutton-Pavli is a Professor of Health Professions Education and Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience and Education at the University of East Anglia (UEA). She holds executive responsibility for strategic oversight of student academic and non-academic wellbeing initiatives. Previously, she served as Academic Director for Taught Programmes and Associate Dean for Learning & Teaching Quality in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences.
Her career spans over 20 years in higher education, following a decade as a registered Mental Health Nurse specializing in community and liaison mental health practice. Key roles include curriculum design leadership for nursing and health professions programs, including redesigning MSc accelerated nursing curricula and postgraduate advanced practice frameworks. She has extensive experience in academic governance, notably as a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) external reviewer and fitness-to-practice investigating officer.
Research interests focus on healthcare education innovation, assessment methodologies, and student wellbeing. She has contributed to interdisciplinary programs addressing mental health crises, substance misuse, and blended learning strategies in healthcare training. Active in international collaboration, she led educational projects in the UAE through partnerships with Sharjah University.
Professional service includes 7+ years as a disciplinary officer handling student conduct cases and chair roles in appeals committees. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and good health/wellbeing.
