Emma Skippings

Dr. Emma Skippings is a Senior Lecturer in Planning at Oxford Brookes University's School of the Built Environment. Her research focuses on informal housing markets, pro-poor infrastructure policies, and urbanization in the Global South. Prior to academia, she practiced as a solicitor specializing in commercial, property, and finance law across London and the Middle East for 10 years.

Her teaching includes modules on development theory, urban policy, globalization, and legal frameworks. She coordinates the MSc Infrastructure and Sustainable Development program and leads interdisciplinary initiatives for online learning. She supervises postgraduate dissertations at Oxford Brookes and acts as an external PhD supervisor at Copperbelt University (Zambia).

Research interests include peri-urban transformation, informal land delivery systems, and urban diversity/equalities. She collaborates with research groups Land, Design & Development (LDD) and Planning, Policy & Governance (PPG).
