Emma Richards is a part-time Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences, concurrently maintaining her own physiotherapy practice. She serves as course leader for the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-Registration) program. Her clinical expertise spans acute neurological rehabilitation (stroke and head injury units), outpatient services, and community settings, with specialization in the Bobath Approach and Movement/Functional Task Analysis.
Richards has taught clinicians nationally and internationally, leading the Neurological Module in postgraduate physiotherapy courses. As Service User Lead, she integrates patient perspectives into curriculum development, teaching, and admissions. Her research includes developing handling treatment videos and creating accelerated physiotherapy registration programs.
Publications focus on therapeutic interventions for neurological conditions, evidenced by her 2018 feasibility study on power-assisted exercise.
