معرفی
Dr. Emma Creagh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry within the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin. Her research focuses on the intersection of inflammation, immunology, and cancer, particularly examining the role of inflammatory caspases in disease progression across multiple organ systems.
Dr. Creagh's research interests span several critical areas of biomedical science:
- Cancer and Cancer Immunology, with particular focus on gastrointestinal cancers
- The role of caspases in inflammation and immune responses
- Inflammasome-mediated inflammation pathways
- The connection between chronic inflammation and cancer development
- Esophageal and colorectal cancer mechanisms
- TLR signaling in disease progression
Analysis of Dr. Creagh's recent publications reveals a cohesive research program centered on inflammatory caspases (particularly -1, -4, -5, and -11) and their diverse roles in disease. Her work spans gastrointestinal cancers (particularly esophageal and colorectal), inflammatory bowel disease, allergic airway inflammation, and psoriasis, demonstrating how these enzymes regulate immune responses across multiple pathological contexts. A significant portion of her research investigates the molecular mechanisms linking inflammation to cancer development, with implications for novel therapeutic targets.
Dr. Creagh has received numerous scientific awards and recognitions:
- Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellowship (2006-2011)
- Broad Medical Research Program Fellowship (2010-2012)
- TCD Pathfinder Award (2015)
- Winner of Oral presentation at Irish Society of Gastroenterology Meeting (2016)
- Voted 'Favorite Woman in Science' by TCD General Science Students (2017-2019)
- Senior Council Member of the Irish Association for Cancer Research (IACR) since 2020
Dr. Creagh maintains active collaborations with clinicians at St. Vincent's Hospital and participates in numerous national and international research networks. Her laboratory serves as a training ground for the next generation of immunologists and cancer researchers, with several students presenting their work at major conferences. She regularly presents her findings at specialized immunology meetings and gastroenterology conferences, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in inflammation-related diseases.
