Emma Clancy is a Part-Time Lecturer in the School of Communication at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where she is also a PhD Candidate. Her research focuses on corporate power dynamics in AI regulation, particularly analyzing how technology monopolies influence regulatory frameworks like the EU's AI Act. Her research interests span AI ethics, platform governance, and corporate tax avoidance. She critiques the intersection of big tech monopolies and regulatory capture, with recent work examining the EU's fiscal policies and their impact on healthcare and economic inequality.
Her publications analyze topics such as antitrust reforms, corporate tax evasion strategies (e.g., Apple's Irish deals), and the EU's handling of fiscal crises and austerity measures. Her work often highlights how institutional frameworks enable corporate power consolidation at societal expense.
Clancy's advocacy extends beyond academia: she has been involved in the Australian trade union movement and critiques via her blog the ethical implications of emerging technologies.
