Emily Tabuteau is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Affairs in the Department of History at Michigan State University, part of the College of Social Science. Her academic focus spans Medieval, Political, and Social History, with a regional emphasis on Europe and Russia.
She teaches courses on pre-modern European history, including English constitutional and legal history (HST 350/351), introductory seminars (HST 201), and courses on medieval Europe (HST 205B), Roman History (HST 331), and English History to 1688 (HST 340). Her research centers on Anglo-Norman customary law in the 11th and 12th centuries, resulting in a published book, Transfers of Property in Eleventh-Century Norman Law, and numerous articles.
As Associate Chair, she advises all non-Honors College History majors, minors, and students interested in history courses. Office hours are Tuesdays 3:00-5:00 PM on Zoom and Wednesdays 12:45-3:00 PM in 161 Old Horticulture.
