Emily Regier

Emily Regier is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Missouri's Truman School of Government and Public Affairs, with a secondary appointment as Assistant Professor of Constitutional Democracy at the Kinder Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Her research focuses on American constitutionalism, public law, and legal theory, examining how judicial decision-making models intersect with democratic frameworks. She critiques ideological and strategic accounts of judicial behavior, emphasizing the role of legal frameworks' political assumptions.

Emily is particularly engaged with the historical legacy of Legal Process Theory, a mid-20th-century institutional-competence-based legal decision-making framework. Prior to academia, she clerked for a federal district court judge and practiced law at a large California firm.
