Emily Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick. Her research focuses on economic sociology, inequality, social stratification, labor markets, and life course analysis. She has conducted localized research in Ireland and cross-national studies across Europe, with prior affiliations at Oxford University, University of Zürich, and University of Luxembourg.
Education: B.A. in Business, Economics, and Social Studies from Trinity College Dublin; M.Sc. in Sociology from the University of Oxford; Ph.D. from the University of Lausanne (NCCR LIVES).
Research Interests: Emily’s work examines the intersections of wealth distribution, middle-class dynamics, youth unemployment (NEET populations), and welfare state policies. She has contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals relating to economic inequality reduction and social inclusion.
Teaching: Course Director for the MSc in Sociology and Data Analytics program at UL.
Collaborations: Editorial board member of European Societies; member of the University of Huddersfield’s Board of Advisors; committee member of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.
