Emily Morgan is a Professor in the Linguistics Department at the University of California, Davis, leading the Morgan Computational Psycholinguistics Lab since Summer 2018. Her research integrates psycholinguistic experimentation, neurolinguistic methods (e.g., eye-tracking, ERPs), and probabilistic computational modeling to investigate how stored linguistic/musical representations and online processing procedures form expectations during comprehension.

Her work spans language processing, frequency-dependent regularization, binomial expressions, multiword expression cognition, and cross-domain comparisons between language and music. Recent studies examine surprisal theory in code comprehension, dual-channel constraints, and the interplay between generative and item-specific knowledge in linguistic structures.
Key research trends include probabilistic modeling of linguistic expectations, cross-linguistic analysis (Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish), and applications to natural language processing and software engineering. She actively explores connections between language and music cognition, emphasizing hierarchical structures and statistical learning.
The Morgan Computational Psycholinguistics Lab focuses on computational models of language processing, with ongoing work in programming language comprehension, syntactic choice mechanisms, and neural evidence for Bayesian adaptation in semantic priming.
