Emily Meierding is an Associate Professor in the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School. Her expertise includes energy geopolitics, environmental security, and economic statecraft, with a focus on debunking myths about resource-driven conflicts.
Her research investigates oil's role in international disputes, sanctions efficacy, and energy interdependence. She has testified before the U.S.–China Economic and Security Review Commission and published extensively on petrostate stability and conflict dynamics.
Awards include the duPont-Columbia Award for investigations into racial profiling and multiple Emmys for corruption exposés. Recent articles analyze fuel supply chains in West Africa, Russia's war in Ukraine, and sanctions against North Korea.
Teaching interests encompass energy security, international relations theory, and U.S. national security policy.
