Emily Luxon

Emily Luxon is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, affiliated with the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. She holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on environmental politics, food systems policy, and the intersection of advocacy organizations with transparency in policymaking. Current projects include climate change discourse analysis and regulatory challenges in sewage sludge utilization.

She teaches courses such as POL/ESCI 467: Food Politics and Policy (Fall ’25) and LIBS 351: Critical Food Studies (Winter ’26). As Director of UM-Dearborn’s Food Studies Certificate program, she advocates interdisciplinary food systems education.

Her work bridges political theory and practice, examining power dynamics in environmental advocacy and responsibility frameworks for climate policies. Recent publications analyze advocacy strategies and regulatory discourse in food and environmental governance.
