Dr. Emily Furlong is a Lecturer in the Division of Biomedical Science & Biochemistry at The Australian National University (ANU). She holds a PhD and BSc (Hons) in related fields. Her research focuses on bacterial motility mechanisms, protein structure-function relationships, and microbial pathogenesis. Key areas include flagellar assembly, enzymology, and metal ion homeostasis in pathogenic bacteria.
Her work integrates structural biology techniques like cryo-electron microscopy and neutron scattering to study protein complexes such as bacterial flagellar components and copper resistance proteins. Notable projects include investigating the molecular basis of bacterial flagellar directional switching and the structural properties of disulfide isomerases.
