Emily Dolmans is a Lecturer in Medieval Literature at the University of East Anglia (UEA), part of the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing. She joined UEA in 2019 after teaching at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on medieval literature’s engagement with cultural geography, borders, migration, multilingualism, and identity formation. She explores how medieval texts depict regional identities in contexts of cultural contact, with a particular interest in romances and historical texts in Middle English, Insular French, and Latin.
Education: B.A. (Hons) from McGill University (2006–2010), MPhil and DPhil from the University of Oxford (2011–2017). Her doctoral work examined regional identities and cultural contact in post-conquest England.
Teaching: She co-convenes the first-year module 'Reading Literature in History' and teaches medieval modules, including Shakespeare and 'Slow Reading.' She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches linking literature to cultural and historical contexts.
Key Activities: Organized the CHASE Medieval French Training workshop series (2021–2024) and participated in conferences like the Medieval Insular Romance conference (2024) and the New Chaucer Society event (2022). She also contributes to academic reviews and editorial work.
